Tzu Chi USA Scholarship

Overview
The Tzu Chi USA Scholarship, funded by the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, awards financial support to exceptional college-bound high school seniors and to returning undergraduate scholars in select U.S. regions. Selection is based on demonstrated financial need, commitment to continuing education at a college or university, and active community involvement. Applications are open now — submissions must be received by April 15, 2026.
Who may apply
- High school applicants: U.S. high school graduating seniors (or equivalent) who will begin full-time study at an accredited U.S. college for the 2026–2027 academic year and who demonstrate financial need.
- Returning undergraduate applicants: must be former Tzu Chi Scholarship recipients, show financial need, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and plan to attend an accredited U.S. college full-time for the 2026–2027 academic year. Returning applicants must also have completed 50 volunteer hours with Tzu Chi or another nonprofit during the current academic year.
Application materials and documentation
All applicants must submit:
1. A completed Tzu Chi USA Scholarship application form appropriate to your applicant category (High School or Returning Undergraduate).
2. Proof of financial need showing the applicant’s name — provide one of the following:
- The family’s complete 2025 U.S. Form 1040, including all schedules; or
- Official documentation from a government agency verifying financial hardship.
3. One community recommendation letter.
Security reminder
Before uploading or mailing financial documents, black out (redact) all Social Security Numbers to protect personal information.
Selection criteria
Award decisions will consider financial need, academic commitment to continuing education, and demonstrated community service involvement.
Deadline
All materials must be submitted by April 15, 2026, for consideration for the 2026–2027 academic year.
