Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation Inc.
All scholarships become available each year in January.
Eligibility
- Open to all college students, including international students. Awards are available to, but not limited to, members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and their dependents.
Application requirements by award type
Undergraduate
- Completed online application form, including a personal statement.
- Two (2) letters of recommendation dated within the current application year.
- Official transcript(s) from every college attended showing cumulative GPA (scan and attach).
- Financial-need awards only: a financial need analysis.
- THRIVE (GAP) applicants only: a copy of the tuition bill demonstrating less than $1,000 owed to graduate or progress to the next academic level.
Graduate
- Completed online application form.
- Documentation describing the project, research, or other scholarly activity.
- Two (2) letters of recommendation dated within the current application year.
- Official transcript(s) from every college attended showing cumulative GPA (scan and attach).
- Financial-need awards only: a financial need analysis.
- First-time graduate students must attach a copy of their acceptance letter.
Fellowship, Community, & Service Awards
- Completed online application form.
- Detailed project narrative.
- Project budget.
- Letter(s) of support.
- Relevant financial or institutional documentation as applicable (transcripts, IRS Form 990, or audit).
Disqualification
- Applications that are incomplete or that fail to meet minimum requirements (for example, recommendation letters not dated in the current application year) will be disqualified at the time of submission.
Deadlines and submission
- All applications must be submitted electronically by 11:59 p.m. CST on the listed deadline date.
- Thrive Scholarship — March 1
- Undergraduate Scholarships (Merit, Financial Need, Launch) — April 15
- Youth P.A.C. Scholarships and Service Awards — April 15
- Fellowship Awards — April 15 (even-numbered years only)
- Marriott Scholarship (Hotel/Hospitality majors only) — May 1
- Graduate Scholarships (Merit, Financial Need) — August 15
- Community Assistance Awards — August 15
- Endowment Scholarships — September 30
Payment
- All awards are issued in U.S. dollars and paid by U.S. bank-based checks. No other payment methods will be used.
