Overview
The Alaska Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is offering scholarships for the 2026–2027 academic year to qualified students. Awards are for one academic year; recipients who still meet eligibility may reapply each year by submitting a new application and transcript.
Who is eligible
- Graduating Alaska high school seniors: Must plan to enroll full-time at an accredited university for the Fall 2026 semester in a degree program leading to an undergraduate engineering or earth sciences degree (examples: petroleum, chemical, mechanical, electrical, environmental, civil). The program must be STEM-related, and the student should intend to pursue employment in the petroleum industry.
- Current undergraduate students: Must be enrolled full-time at an accredited institution for Fall 2026 in a STEM engineering or earth sciences curriculum (same fields as above) and plan to seek employment in the petroleum industry, plus meet at least one of the following: (1) graduated from a high school in Alaska, (2) are currently attending a college in Alaska, or (3) are a dependent of a member of the SPE or AADE Alaska Section.
Required application materials
- Completed scholarship application.
- An official academic transcript that is sealed and certified by the issuing school and includes Fall 2025 final grades.
How to submit
- Applications may be sent by mail or by email. All application submissions must be received no later than Wednesday, April 30, 2026. Applications arriving after that date will not be considered.
- Official transcripts must be mailed only (no email copies). Transcripts must be postmarked on or before Wednesday, April 30, 2026.
Important instructions and restrictions
- Do not include any additional documents with your application. Resumes, letters of recommendation, or other attachments will not be reviewed.
- Do not send transcripts that require signature-confirmation delivery. The SPE mailbox is not checked daily, and such items may be returned to sender. If you wish to verify receipt of your transcript, you may email the SPE Alaska Section to confirm.
Notification and payment
- Applicants will be informed of award decisions by July 1, 2026.
- Scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the recipient’s school in Fall 2026 after enrollment has been confirmed.
