Overview
The Veterans United Foundation Scholarship supports the educational goals of military families. Started in 2012 and funded by donations from Veterans United Home Loans and its employees, the program has awarded more than $1 million to help military-connected students pursue higher education across the United States.

Who is eligible
Applicants must meet one of the following conditions:
- A Veteran with a 100% service‑connected disability rating.
- The surviving spouse of a service member who died as a result of service.
- The surviving child of a service member who died as a result of service.

Enrollment and degree paths
- You must be currently enrolled or planning to enroll for the upcoming semester at an accredited college or university.
- Eligible programs include associate’s, bachelor’s, graduate, post‑graduate and doctoral degrees.
- Applicants should be willing to share personal background and educational goals with the Veterans United Foundation.

Required documentation (must be provided within three business days of application)
Applicants must be prepared to submit the following quickly after applying:
- For surviving family members: the deceased parent or spouse’s military records (DD214 and death certificate OR DD1300).
- For veterans applying on the basis of disability: an official benefits letter showing the disability rating.
- A completed/full FAFSA submission.
- Proof of current or intended enrollment from your accredited institution.
- A government‑issued photo ID.

Selection criteria
Awards are decided using the following factors:
- Personal essay: A typed narrative describing how your own military service or the loss of a spouse/parent has shaped your life. Explain who you are, the path you’ve taken, and what you hope to accomplish with your college education and beyond.
- Financial need: Assessed by the Veterans United Foundation awards team using the information on your full FAFSA.
- Additional materials: Relevant community, church, athletic or school involvement and achievements, and any other items you’d like considered (examples: photos, drawings, poems, other writings).

Payment conditions and other requirements
- To receive scholarship disbursements, recipients must provide receipts or invoices for allowable educational expenses as they are incurred. Eligible expenses include tuition, books, fees, necessary school supplies, and certain portions of room and board as determined by the Foundation.
- Candidates may be subject to a background check.

If you have questions about documentation or the submission timeline, contact the Veterans United Foundation for guidance before applying.
