Captains Preferred Products is dedicated to the marine environment and to encouraging future leaders in ocean science. Each year we award a $1,000 scholarship to help an undergraduate or graduate student further their education in marine-related studies and move closer to a career in the field.

Island Institute Scholarship — Overview
The Island Institute Scholarship supports students connected to Maine’s island and coastal communities. Eligible applicants include those who live on or attend school on any of Maine’s 15 year-round, unbridged islands, students enrolled at Deer Isle / Stonington High School, and residents of St. George. Candidates may apply beginning in their senior year of high school. Our organization traces its roots to 1998, when PFLAG-Houston joined forces with the Houston Area Teen Coalition of Homosexuals (H.A.T.C.H.) with the common goal of supporting LGBTQ+ youth in the Houston area. That collaboration led to the formation of the PFLAG/HATCH Youth Scholarship Foundation in 1999. In 2013 the foundation adopted the name Out for Education to better reflect its focus on education and service to the LGBTQ+ community.
